By A sleepy fan.
If you’re a boxing fan the term ‘breakfast club’ might take on a slightly different meaning than what it might mean for others.
One of the biggest problems with being a boxing fan and living in Europe, especially in the UK or Ireland – is having to be part of the ‘Breakfast boxing Club’
This unique club is an exclusive group of individuals dedicated and devoted to the task of watching boxing regardless of any time difference.
Ask any hardcore boxing fan from Europe for example to explain the pitfalls involved in just trying to stay awake long enough to watch any big fight from the States and he or she will tell you the complexities, the logistics and time management tricks and methods involved just to get to the point (normally about 4 or 5 or possibly later in the early hours of a Sunday morning) and still be in any correct frame of mind to process exactly what happened in the main event , really it’s like training for a 12 round fight and turning up to a 15 round bout,
Very few sports fans will sacrifice sleep to the point where they will stay awake for over 20 hours to watch an event.
But hardcore boxing fans will do it with a regularity that is a credit to the sport.
The breakfast club will meet again for another bout of sleep deprivation in the early hours of Sunday morning when Gennady Golovkin 38-0-1-34kos again is pitched against Canelo Alvarez 49-1-2 -34kos
It’s a date so set you’re alarms for ‘stupid o’clock’ Sunday morning and try if you can to make it to front rooms everywhere (in Europe particularly)
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep on my couch/sofa only to wake up to see the score cards announced don’t let it happen to you take the correct precautions
Yours faithfully the boxing breakfast club.
